Send a Chat Message
The Chat feature lets you send messages directly to the families in your program — all within the Rayz Kidz app. You can message one family, multiple families, or all families at once, and optionally include your employees (Group Caregivers) on any thread.
Getting Started
To access Chat, open the Rayz Kidz app and tap the Chat tab at the bottom of the screen. From here you can view all existing message threads and start new ones.
Sending a Message to Families
Use this option to send a message to one family, multiple families, or all families at once. Each family receives their message separately — they will not see other families' names or responses.
Step 1: In the Chat tab, tap the + icon in the top right corner.
Step 2: Select Family as the message type.
Step 3: Choose your recipients:
Tap Select All to message every family in your program, or
Tap one or more individual family names to select specific families.
Step 4: Tap Next.
Step 5: Type your message in the text field, then tap the right arrow to send.
Who sees a family message? All parents and caregivers who have been added to that family's profile in the app.
Including a Group Caregiver on a Thread
Group Caregivers are employees or assistants in your program. You can optionally add them to any family message thread so they stay informed.
Step 1: Follow Steps 1–3 above to select your message recipients.
Step 2: Before tapping Next, toggle on Include All Group Caregivers.
Step 3: Tap Next, write your message, and send.
How do I know if a thread includes a Group Caregiver? Threads with a Group Caregiver included will display a star icon in the Chat list.
Sending a 1:1 Message to a Parent
Use this option for a private, direct conversation with an individual parent — separate from the family thread.
Step 1: In the Chat tab, tap the + icon in the top right corner.
Step 2: Select Individual as the message type.
Step 3: Search for or select the parent's name from the list, then tap Next.
Step 4: Type your message in the thread.
Step 5 (Optional): Tap the category icon to label your message as a Message, Announcement, or Reminder.
Step 6: Tap the right arrow to send.
How Parent Notifications Work
Parents are notified of new messages in two ways:
Push notification — if the parent has push notifications enabled on their device, they will receive an alert as soon as the message is sent.
Email notification — if a message is left unread, the parent will automatically receive an email the following morning letting them know they have unread messages in Rayz Kidz.
Managing Group Caregiver Access
To control which employees can access and use the Chat feature as a Group Caregiver:
Step 1: Tap the Menu bar (≡) in the app.
Step 2: Go to Program Tools.
Step 3: Tap Groups.
Step 4: Select the Group you want to manage.
Step 5: Tap Caregivers to view, add, or remove team members.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can families reply to my messages? Yes. Families can reply directly within the thread, and you will see their responses in the Chat tab.
Will families see each other's messages when I send to multiple families? No. When you send to multiple families, each family receives their own separate message thread. They cannot see other families' names or replies.
Can a Group Caregiver start their own message thread? Yes. Group Caregivers now have full access to the Chat feature and can send messages to families directly.
Do I have to include a Group Caregiver on every message? No. Including a Group Caregiver is completely optional. You control this with the toggle on each new message.
What if a parent doesn't have push notifications turned on? They will still receive an email notification the following morning if their message is unread. You can encourage families to enable push notifications in their device settings for faster communication.
